Maurice Clarett
Oh Maurice, Maurice. So very sad to see you go.
For those who don’t know, Maurice Clarett played one year of college football at the Ohio State University. Actually, not even a whole year. After that he decided to turn pro, against the league rules. He got lawyers, he got huffy, he got agents and he got attention. Only after his lawsuit was rejected did public scandal come out. He claimed he knew of improper behavior by the school. Others claimed Maurice never went to class and took money from boosters. Were they both right? Maybe. Possibly.
But what do we know for sure?
We know that Maurice wrecked himself at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. Maurice thought that, even after missing nearly two years of football, he’d be the NFL’s cat’s meow. Instead he’s a joke. He showed up and ran a 4.7 40-yard dash. That’s not good. In fact that’s dreadful. Instead of moving up in the draft Maurice may have fallen totally out of it. He’s now viewed as a whining malcontent. A troublemaker who not only quit on his own team by leaving early but quit the combine after hearing his poor times. What NFL team wants to waste a draft pick on a quitter? Not many.
And all of this because Maurice wouldn’t simply go to ‘school’ for one more year.
What a difference a year makes.
