The 'hob' part comes from "hobbe" meaning elf in German. So a hobgoblin is an elf goblin, which are more whimsical and friendly than a mean-ass 'goblin'.<br /> <br /> So if Hobgoblin is going to be in Spidey 3, it'll probably be like Spiderman meets Hermey, the dentist elf from the Rudolf Christmas special.
