New TV shows

Friday, October 31st, 2008

So far…

The US version of Life on Mars looks pretty good, true to the original without copying it word for word.

My Own Worst Enemy…is okay, but there are a lot of spy shows and making a weekly version of Bourne Identity probably won’t last unless they make the show more about his internal struggle and less about being a spy.

Knight Rider.  Seriously?  Was someone begging for this show to come back?  It’s horrible.

Kath and Kim?  I usually do not stop watching a show before the first commercial break but rules are made to be broken – this show is … well, it made me throw up in my mouth a little bit it is so bad.

SNL- Thursday Weekend Update.  They took my favorite part of SNL and did 30 minutes more.  Yay!  Now all they need is a new name for it. SNLWUT

Phillies win the World Series

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Are we happy the Phillies won the World Series?  In a word, yes.

It is good for sports towns when a community wins after a long wait.  Philadelphia has not had a champ since… the Phillies and that was 3 decades ago.  The 76ers and Eagles made the finals, but failed.

When a city goes forever without a title, it starts to bleed into other sports in the same town and a generic feel of morose dread encompasses the stadiums.  It is good for each city to win once in a while to keep up morale.  Many fans support the home side win or lose but far more only support a winner.  It’s not just jumping on the bandwagon.  We have added a trailer behind the bandwagon, we’re towing a U-Haul and 3 more vehicles behind that.

Most cities with more than one sport do not suffer long before, even by luck, they win a title.  The current victim… now that the White Sox and Red Sox have won lately is Cleveland.  Cleveland has won no titles…well, since before you or I, and if LeBron heads to the Knicks for $200 million they won’t any time soon either.

It is good for sports when a city that has not enjoyed a parade gets their day in the sun, even if we don’t particularly care for the team or that city – it is simply good for sports.

Rain Delayed World Series

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Some folks are complaining about the rain delay of Game 5 of the World Series. Some think it’s a conspiracy and others think it’s horrible.  But be honest – do you really want a World Series decided when the Phillies are ahead 2-1 in the top of the 6th inning and after a long rain delay the umpires come out on the field and declare the game over and Philadelphia wins?  Does anyone want that?

Nobody wants a title decided by rain or umps or odd circumstances.  Decide the game on the field.  If the Phillies are meant to win, they will.
