Some local Colorado folks are grumbling about Matt Holliday being traded to the A’s for next to nothing.

They fail to realize that in one year that’s exactly what the Rockies would have gotten = nothing = when he left as a free agent.  Holliday was offered 4 years and $72 million dollars and turned it down.  Hello, Rockies fans – you want to pay $5 more for a ticket to every single ballgame?  Then shut up.  The Rox offered as much as they could afford and were turned down so rather than let him leave for free in 10 months, they traded him for something which is, as they say, better than nothing.  They can always try to sign Holliday again as a free agent in 2009.
